Fluid Momentum Flux Equation and Calculator

Momentum Flux is the rate of change of momentum flowing through unit area.

Mass flow rate of a system is a measure of the mass of fluid passing a point in the system per unit time. The mass flow rate is related to the volumetric flow rate.

Eq. 1
Calculation of momentum Flux
τxy = - µ · ( Δvx / Δy )

This equation, which states that the shearing force per unit area is proportional to the negative of the velocity gradient, is often called Newton's law of viscosity. Actually we should not refer to Eq. 1 as a "law," since Newton suggested it as an empiricism the simplest proposal that could be made for relating the stress and the velocity gradient.

Where:

µ = Fluid Viscosity (lbf · s/ft2)
Δvx = Change in Velocity in the x-direction (ft/s)
Δy = Plate Separation in the y-direction (ft)
τxy
= Momentum Flux (lbf/ft2)
