Bulk Modulus of Elasticity (E)
The bulk modulus of elasticity (E) expresses the compressibility of a fluid. It is the ratio of the change in unit pressure to the corresponding volume change per unit of volume.
Because a pressure increase, d p, results in a decrease in fractional volume, dv/v, the minus is inserted to render E positive. Clearly, the units of E are those of pressure - Pa or lb/in2.
